Being at 38/712 on Brigade Road is a bit of a squeeze. Shanthala Nagar is always moving fast and it can get quite overwhelming if you aren't used to it. We’ve got boxes stacked high because the shop isn’t that big. Sometimes it’s hard to find where we put the soap or the tea packets, but we usually remember after a second. It’s just how it is when you’ve been in the same spot for years. The floor is a bit worn down from everyone coming in and out all day. We don't have fancy lights or air conditioning. Just a fan that wobbles a bit in the corner and makes a clicking sound. Most of the people living in Shanthala Nagar stop by for their daily things. We know who wants the morning paper and who is looking for some snacks for their kids after school. It gets noisy with all the traffic on Brigade Road, but you get used to it after a while. My father started this and now I’m the one behind the counter most of the day. We don’t really do much advertising. People just know we are here. The rain sometimes leaks a little near the front door, so we have to watch out for that. It’s a lot of work keeping everything organized, and some days are better than others. We just keep the doors open and see who comes through. It's a lot of work.
