P K Deparment Stores

Our shop is right there at Nandavathi Opera House, and it stays busy from the moment we open the shutters in the morning. P K Deparment Stores isn’t a massive supermarket, but we try to keep a bit of everything on the shelves. You’ve got your soaps, lentils, snacks, and all the household stuff piled up. The aisles are a bit narrow, so when it gets crowded, people have to squeeze past each other. We spend a lot of time checking the expiry dates and making sure the fridge is actually keeping the milk cold. The billing counter is usually the loudest part of the store, with the scanner beeping and people asking about prices. We don't use any fancy marketing tricks; we just put the stock out and help people find their groceries. Most of the staff has been here for years, so we know which brand of tea the lady from the third floor likes. Sometimes the delivery trucks block the road outside and the neighbors get annoyed, but we try to move things as fast as we can. It’s a lot of lifting and standing on your feet all day, but it feels good to be part of the daily routine for the folks living around the Opera House. It’s just a plain, honest store where you get your daily bread and eggs. We stay open late most nights just in case someone needs something last minute.
