We’re based over at C-86 in the ITI Industrial Estate on Whitefield Road, Mahadevapura. It’s a well-known spot in Bangalore. The estate has a lot of history and you can see it in the buildings. Our place, Optics & Allied Engg, is tucked away in there. It’s a mix of an office and a workshop. We deal with some pretty precise stuff, but the way we run things is quite relaxed. There’s no strict dress code or fancy meetings. We just talk over tea and get to work. The traffic on Whitefield Road is always a topic of conversation here because it affects when everyone arrives. Once we’re inside, though, it’s a different world. We have our lenses and equipment all set up. It’s a bit cramped because we have accumulated a lot of tools over the years. We like the clutter; it shows we’re actually doing things. Sometimes it’s a bit dusty, but we try to keep the important areas clean. We aren't trying to impress anyone with a shiny lobby. Most people who come to see us are looking for something specific, and they don't care about the decor. We just focus on the job at hand and try to get it right the first time. It’s a steady way to spend the day.
