Navarang Novelty

If you have ever been to Chickpet, you know how the lanes are. Our shop, Navarang Novelty, is at number 9, right opposite where the Vijayalakshmi Theatre used to be. That theatre is a good landmark for people trying to find us in all this chaos. The street is always packed with people and carts moving goods back and forth. It is a noisy part of town, but that is just Chickpet for you. We sell a lot of small novelty items, the kind of things that come in big boxes and need to be sorted out one by one. I spend a lot of my time climbing up the ladder to reach the top shelves where the older stock is kept. The dust settles fast here because of all the construction and traffic nearby. We open up early in the morning, and the first thing I do is sweep the front step. It is a small shop, so every inch of wall space is used for hanging things or stacking boxes. Sometimes I can't even see the back wall. Customers come in looking for specific things they saw somewhere else, and we have to hunt through the piles to find it. It's a bit of a maze, really. My legs get tired by the end of the day, but seeing the street quiet down in the evening is nice. We just stay here and do our work.
