I am Mahendra Nath Ramani, an advocate working out of 2 BVK Iyengar Road. If you’re looking for me, I’m on the 2nd floor, near the 14th Cross on Rangaswamy Temple Street. This area is one of the busiest parts of the city. There’s constant noise, people moving goods, and the smell of the temple flowers nearby. My office is in an older building that has a lot of character, even if the stairs are a bit steep. Being an advocate in this part of town means you see all sorts of people every day. My room is filled with law books and thick bundles of legal papers tied with red string. It’s a bit cluttered, but I know exactly where everything is. The ceiling fan is almost always on, trying to keep the heat down. I’ve been at this location for many years, and I’ve seen the streets outside change, but the core of the work stays the same. People come in with their problems, and I sit with them and try to figure out the best way forward. It’s not a shiny, modern office with glass walls. It’s a traditional space where we use typewriters occasionally and have tea brought in from the stall downstairs. I prefer it this way because it feels real. My days are long, filled with meetings and reading through documents, but that’s the life of a lawyer on BVK Iyengar Road.
