M Prakash Cloth Emporium

M Prakash Cloth Emporium is located in Teachers Colony, St Thomas Town at number 305. It’s a quiet residential area for the most part, which makes our shop a bit of a local landmark. We deal mostly in fabrics and unstitched cloth. People come to us when they want to get something custom made by a tailor. We have rolls of different materials stacked up against the walls. It’s been in the family for a long time. My father started it and now I’m the one running things day to day. We don’t have air conditioning, just a couple of ceiling fans that keep the air moving during the afternoon heat. It’s a relaxed place where you can take your time looking at the patterns. We don't push people to buy things they don't need. Most of our customers have been coming to us for decades, and now their children come here too. It’s nice to see the generations pass through the shop. The neighborhood has grown a lot, but our little corner feels mostly the same as it was years ago. We don’t have a website or do any online selling. We prefer the old way of doing things where you can feel the cloth before you buy it. It’s a simple business and we are happy to keep it going as long as we can for the community here.
