Lohia Traders

S.J.P. Road is one of those old parts of Bangalore where the streets are so narrow you can barely fit a car. Lohia Traders is on the 2nd Cross in Nagarathpete, which is even tighter. We’re at number 4/2, and it’s a very old building. The walls are thick, but you can still hear the carts rattling on the cobblestones outside. Nagarathpete is famous for being crowded, and our shop is no exception. We have stuff piled up to the ceiling. If you want something from the bottom of the stack, it takes three people to move everything else out of the way. It’s a traditional trading spot. We don't use much fancy technology; mostly just handwritten ledgers and a lot of phone calls. The air is always a bit heavy with the smell of old paper and the goods we store. There’s a small temple nearby, and we hear the bells in the morning. We’ve been in this spot for a long time, and the neighbors are all like family. We share tea and complain about the traffic together. It’s a bit of a struggle to get deliveries in and out because the lanes are so small. But we’ve figured out the timing over the years. We just keep the doors open and wait for the regulars to show up. It’s a slow but busy kind of life in the heart of the old city.
