Our office for Life Insurance Corporation of India is based in Bangalore, specifically in the 560076 area. It’s one of those places that stays busy from the moment the doors open. We have a lot of desks and piles of files everywhere because there is always something to sign or check. People come in worried about their policies or just to pay their premiums. We sit under the fans and try to get through the stack of papers on our desks. It’s typical government work in a way, but we know the people who come in. Some of them have been with us for decades. Bangalore traffic makes it hard for some to reach us on time, so we see people rushing in right before we close for the day. We don't have a fancy lobby or anything like that. It’s just a practical space where we do our business. The walls have some old posters and the chairs are a bit worn out from use. We talk to families a lot. It’s a job that involves a lot of talking and explaining how things work. Sometimes the lines get long, and we feel bad for the people waiting in the heat. We just take it one person at a time and try to be patient. It’s steady work here in Karnataka. The coffee guy comes around twice a day which is usually the highlight for us. We just keep things moving as best as we can.
