About Lakshmi Farm & Nursery – Agriculture & Farming in Bengaluru
Living and working at Lakshmi Farm & Nursery over in Kengeri Bilekahalli 146 is a lot of work, mostly because plants don't wait for you to be in the mood. Every morning starts around five or six when the sun comes up. We have to check the water levels and see if any of the saplings need moving into the shade. It gets quite hot in Kengeri during the summer months, so we spend a lot of time dragging hoses around. The ground here is okay, but we use a lot of compost to keep things growing right. We have some fruit trees and mostly decorative plants that people like to put on their balconies in the city. Some customers come from quite far away just to look at the flowers, even if they don't buy anything. I don't mind much. It is nice to have people around. My brother handles the heavy stuff like the bags of soil and the larger pots. We have a small shed where we keep the tools and seeds. Sometimes the monkeys come by and mess up the rows, which is a real pain to fix. There is a lot of mud on our boots most days. It is not a clean job, but seeing a row of green plants is better than looking at a concrete wall all day. We have been at this location for years, and the trees we planted when we first started are quite tall now. There is always something to prune or repot before the day ends.
