We are based in BTM Layout 2nd Stage, mostly dealing with what comes in from the farms. Kovi Farm Fresh Pvt Ltd isn't a supermarket; it’s more of a distribution point where things are constantly being sorted. We get the trucks arriving early, usually while it’s still dark outside. The air smells like wet earth and fresh greens. We spend hours going through crates of tomatoes and bundles of spinach to see what’s good and what isn't. It’s hard work and our hands are usually stained by the end of the shift. The floor is often wet from washing the vegetables, so we have to be careful not to slip. We have a few cold storage units that hum loudly all day and night. BTM Layout is a busy place, so there’s always noise from the street outside. We don't have a fancy office. Our desk is just a flat wooden board over some crates where we keep the delivery slips. Sometimes the crop isn't good because of the rains, and we have to tell people we don't have what they need. It’s just the way farming works. We have a small crew of workers who have been with us since we started. We share tea in plastic cups and talk about the prices of onions or the rain. It’s a messy, honest business and we just try to keep things moving so nothing sits around and goes bad on us.
