Kothari

Living and working on Avenue Road is something else. Our place, Kothari, is at 41334. If you know this area, you know how tight the streets are. We have been here for years, just doing what we do. It’s mostly just us handling the day-to-day stuff. We don’t have a big team or a human resources department or anything like that. It’s just practical work. Sometimes the dust from the road gets in, so we are always dusting off the counters. We sell various things and talk to people who come in from all over. Some days are slow and we just sit and watch the bikes go by. Other days, we can’t even find a second to eat lunch. That’s just how it goes in this part of town. We aren't trying to be the biggest or anything, we just want to make sure we have what people are looking for when they stop in. The building is old, and it has its quirks, like the door that squeaks no matter how much oil we put on it. We like it here, though. It feels like home after so many years. It’s just a honest way to make a living, and we’re glad to be a part of the noise and the life on Avenue Road. We keep the books by hand mostly, just simple and clear. The tea man comes by every afternoon without fail.
