Johnson Tools & Hardware

If you find yourself on Kumbarpet Main Road, look for Namboori Mansion. We are at Shop No 12, house number 22. It is a busy spot, as you would expect from this part of town. Johnson Tools & Hardware has been in this shop for a long time. The shelves go all the way to the ceiling, packed with everything from tiny screws to heavy-duty power tools. It is a bit of a squeeze when more than two customers come in at once, but we make it work. We spend our days climbing ladders and pulling down boxes for people. The noise from the traffic outside is constant, so we usually have to shout a bit to be heard over the horns. It is not a shiny, air-conditioned showroom. It is a real hardware store where things are a bit dusty and the floor is worn down from all the foot traffic. We know where everything is, even if it looks like a mess to someone else. My brother and I run the place, and we have seen the market change over the decades. We don't use any fancy sales talk or marketing tricks. People come in, ask for a specific bolt or a hammer, and we find it for them. We close up when the sun goes down and do it all again the next day. It is hard work, but it is what we know. There is no big corporate strategy here, just tools and hardware. We just keep the shop open for whoever drops by.
