Jain Traders

Jain Traders is a little shop located at 1-9-18 on Siddaramaih Road in Kenkere. It’s a busy spot because the road is one of the main ways people get through the village. We sell all sorts of things that people need for their homes and farms. The walls are lined with wooden shelves that my father built years ago. They are starting to sag a bit, but they still hold the weight. We don't use a computer for the sales; we have a big ledger book and a calculator that works most of the time. The morning starts with sweeping the dust off the front step. Kenkere is a dusty place, especially in the dry season. We see a lot of the same faces every day, mostly neighbors coming in for a chat or to pick up a few items. We don't have any fancy displays or bright lights. It’s just the goods stacked up where they fit. Sometimes the delivery truck is late and we run out of things, but people are patient. We stay open late on Saturdays because that’s when everyone comes into town. It’s a simple business. We aren't trying to expand or become famous. We just want to provide what the local folks need and keep the shop running for another generation. It’s just how things are done here on Siddaramaih Road. It is hard work but good.
