Out here in Peenya 2nd Stage, it's all about the sound of machines. Our place is on the 32nd Main, right near 4th Cross in the Dollars Colony area. It’s a busy spot. We spend the whole day cutting, bending, and joining metal. There is usually a smell of oil and burnt metal in the air, which you just get used to after a week of working here. Our floors are concrete and usually covered in scraps that we sweep up at the end of the day. We have a few big machines that take up most of the room, so you have to watch where you walk. Usually, someone is yelling over the noise of a grinder to be heard. It isn't a quiet office job, that’s for sure. We get drawings from customers and try to figure out the best way to make the parts they need. Sometimes things don't go perfectly on the first try, so we have to adjust and try again. It's a lot of standing on your feet and checking sizes with calipers. The power goes out once in a while, and we all just sit outside on the steps until it comes back on. It gives us a chance to talk about the traffic on the way in or what's for dinner. We just focus on getting the fabrication work done so the trucks can take it away. Every day is pretty much the same and we just get on with it.
