Our office is down on Grahalakshmi Market Road in Kachani. It is a busy part of the area near Trivandrum and there is always some kind of noise or activity going on outside our windows. Being part of the Indian Railways Catering And Tourisnm Corporation means there is usually a lot of paperwork to sort through and people coming in and out all day. The weather down here in South India is usually quite humid, so the office can feel a bit stuffy during the middle of the day. We have a lot of old ledgers and computer screens that stay on from morning until night. Most of the staff here live nearby in Karakuklam or other parts of the city, so we take the bus or ride our scooters in. The market road gets very crowded on the weekends, making it hard to find a place to park the bikes sometimes. We spend a lot of time talking about train schedules and food orders because that is just what our job requires. It is not a shiny corporate office with glass walls; it is just a practical space where people work. We have a small corner where we keep the kettle for making coffee in the mornings. Sometimes the printers jam or the delivery trucks are late, and we just have to figure it out on the fly. It is just a normal day-to-day operation where everyone knows their job and tries to keep things moving along for everyone.
