Hotel Grand Ashok, Bangalore sits right at House Number 5 on Central Street in Kumara Park. It’s a pretty decent area to be in, with more trees than some other parts of the city. We’ve been here for a while, and the building has its own character. It’s not one of those brand-new glass towers; it feels more like it belongs to the history of Bangalore. Every morning, things start early with people checking out or asking where they can get a good breakfast nearby. We spend a lot of time making sure the rooms are sorted and that the lobby doesn't look too messy. Central Street can get some traffic, but it’s usually not as bad as the main junctions. The staff here are mostly local folks who have been around for years. We know which floor has the best breeze and which windows look out over the nicer parts of Kumara Park. Sometimes things break or a lightbulb goes out, and we have to scurry around to fix it, but that’s just how it is running a hotel. It’s a lot of laundry and a lot of talking to guests who are tired from traveling. We don't try to act like we're some ultra-posh place; we just provide a spot to sleep and a friendly face at the desk. It’s a hard job but it’s what we do here on Central Street.
