Being in Chickpet means things are always moving fast. We are located in the SSK Sangha Building on KV Temple Street, which is right in the middle of all the chaos. If you’ve ever been to this part of town, you know finding our shop, Hindustan Novelties, can be a bit of a challenge because of all the crowds. We have been here for a long time, dealing with all sorts of small items and daily goods. The building is old and has a lot of character, though the stairs can be a bit steep if you aren't used to them. Most of our days are spent unpacking boxes and trying to find a place for new stock. Chickpet is the kind of place where you see the same faces every day, but also thousands of strangers. It gets really loud outside with the honking and people shouting, but we just get on with it. We don't have fancy displays or anything like that. It’s mostly just shelves filled to the top with whatever we could get our hands on that week. Customers come in looking for specific things, and half the time we have to dig through a pile to find it. It isn't a perfect system, but it works for us and the people who shop here. We just try to keep things honest and keep the doors open, no matter how busy the street gets outside.
