Haileyburia Tea Estates Ltd. has an office here in Varthur. While the tea itself comes from the estates further away, this is where we handle a lot of the local logistics and coordination. Varthur has changed a lot lately, with all the new apartments and traffic. Our office is a place where we keep track of shipments and talk to people about the tea. It’s a bit different from the water businesses around here because we’re dealing with boxes and crates instead of tankers. The air in the office sometimes smells a little like dried leaves if we have samples out. We have a small staff who have been with the company for years. We spend a lot of time on the phone or looking at spreadsheets. It’s not a very exciting job, but it’s steady. We see the lake nearby every day when we come into work. The building we’re in is pretty plain, just a standard place to work. We don’t really have customers walking in off the street much. It’s mostly business-to-business stuff. We have our tea in the mornings, talk about what needs to be shipped, and get on with it. It’s a quiet environment for the most part, unless there’s a big delivery arriving. We’ve settled into Varthur quite well and it’s a good base for our operations in this part of the state. We’ve been at this address long enough that it feels like home.
