Our office is at Dsouza House in Pernal, which is a bit of a way out near Shirva in Udupi. It is a quiet place, not like the big city offices you see in Bangalore or Mumbai. We handle travel stuff for people all around the taluk. Most of our work involves helping locals get their papers ready for going abroad or just visiting family in other states. We have had the same phone number, 0820-2554405, for a long time, and people usually just call us up when they need something quickly. The office is part of a house, so it feels very homey and not at all like a cold business environment. Sometimes the power goes out in the afternoon, so we just wait it out and get back to the computers when it is back on. It is a lot of checking flight dates and making sure names are spelled correctly on passports. We see a lot of the same faces coming in year after year. People trust us because we have been in Pernal for so long and they know our families. We do not use much fancy technology, just the basic systems we need to book tickets and talk to the airlines. It is a slow pace of life here in Udupi, but the work is steady and keeps us busy. We just try to be helpful to our neighbors and anyone else who finds their way to our door at Dsouza House.
