Firstsign

Our little shop, Firstsign, is tucked away at 76 Kalyan Nagar, specifically in Bhandar Lane inside the Sai Green Apartment building. It’s not a huge space, but it fits everything we need. We do a lot of signage work and bits and pieces of design when people ask for it. It gets a bit cramped when we have big boards lying around waiting to be picked up. Living and working in the same neighborhood means we see a lot of the same faces every day. The apartment building is mostly residential, so we try not to make too much noise late at night. Sometimes the lighting in the shop isn't great, but we manage. People find us mostly by word of mouth or if they live nearby in Kalyan Nagar. We don't really do much advertising because we're usually busy enough with the locals. There’s a lot of cutting and measuring that happens here. It can get messy with scraps of vinyl or plastic on the floor, but we sweep up when we can. It’s just a basic operation where we try to get the letters and colors to look right for whoever is asking. It’s a quiet enough lane compared to the main road. We’ve been here for a while and know the security guards and the neighbors pretty well. We spend a lot of time on our stools just getting the edges straight and making sure everything is ready.
