Fathima Links is situated in the Shanthi Nagar Pandol Industrial Estate on Ved Road 26. Being in an industrial estate means we are surrounded by a lot of heavy machinery and big trucks moving in and out all the time. Our unit is just one of many, and it has that practical, industrial feel to it. We deal with logistics and connections, basically making sure things get from one place to another. The air around here usually smells like exhaust and metal, and the noise from the neighbors' machines is constant. It’s a rough and ready kind of environment. We have a small office section partitioned off from the main floor where we keep the computer and the records. It gets quite warm in the summer, so we keep the big shutters open as much as possible. Most of our day is spent on the phone or checking lists of items that need to be moved. We’ve been at this location for a while, so we are used to the rhythm of the estate. It isn't the kind of place where you’d come for a fancy meeting, but it works for what we do. We have a few plastic chairs for visitors and a big calendar on the wall that we use to keep track of everything. It’s just honest work in a busy part of the city. We keep a cooler of water by the door for the drivers.
