Consolidated Contractors Company

Consolidated Contractors Company is out here in Karkala Taluk, specifically in the Devi Kripa area near Post-Chara. Most days start pretty early because the sun gets hot in Udupi-Dist fast. We usually have a few trucks moving around with sand or bricks, and the yard gets messy when it rains, which happens a lot in this part of Karnataka. It is not some big glass office or anything like that. We just have a small space where the paperwork gets done and the guys meet up before heading to a site. Sometimes the neighbors come by to talk about their own walls or roofs. My desk is usually covered in drawings and old coffee cups. We spend most of the time on the phone trying to get materials delivered on time from the city. It’s hard work and your boots are always muddy. Dealing with laborers and keeping everyone on schedule takes up the whole day. People around here know where we are if they need something built. We don't have a fancy sign, just the gate and the sound of the mixers. The Udupi weather can be tricky for outdoor work, so we keep an eye on the clouds. It’s a local operation, and we like it that way because we know the roads and the people. We keep the tools in the back shed and the office stays busy until late evening most weeks. We have been here for a while and the work keeps coming.
