Cafe Coffee Day, Bangalore

So this is the setup for the Cafe Coffee Day work, though the mail usually goes to Narora in Uttar Pradesh where the family is. Himanshu handles things from the Naps Township area. It’s a bit of a distance between the coffee shop life in Bangalore and the quiet township in Bulandshahr, but we make it work somehow. Making coffee is mostly about getting the machine to cooperate and making sure the beans are fresh enough for the morning rush. We spend a lot of time wiping down counters and making sure the milk is stocked up in the fridge. It’s loud and there is always music playing in the background that you eventually stop hearing. People come in for a quick drink or to sit with their laptops for hours, and we just keep the pots brewing. Dealing with the inventory and the paperwork happens at the desk in C-23/3. It is not a big fancy office, just where the records are kept. Sometimes the supply truck is late and we have to scramble. That’s just life in the food business. We aren't trying to change the world, just trying to get through the lunch rush without running out of sugar. It's a lot of standing on your feet and smelling like roasted coffee beans by the time you go home at night. We just keep the doors open and the heater going.
