Down at Sunkadakatte Mumbai Pune Highway, Bopodi 147, you'll find Bharti Seeds Private Limited. Being right near the highway means there is always a constant hum of cars and trucks passing by our front door. Our building is a mix of an office and a storage space where we keep the seed sacks stacked up. We deal with different types of seeds for farming throughout the year. The air inside smells a bit like dried earth and grain, which we’ve gotten used to. It’s a very hands-on kind of place. We spend a lot of time checking the quality of what comes in from the growers. There are usually a few people sitting around the front porch area talking about the weather or the crop cycles because that’s what matters most in this line of work. The highway location makes it easy for the bigger trucks to pull in and load up for long trips. It can get quite dusty because of the road construction that never seems to end. Inside, the shelves are lined with packets and samples. We use basic computers for the billing, but a lot of the notes are still written down in big registers. It’s a simple setup without any fancy furniture. The staff here knows a lot about planting seasons and local soil. We just focus on getting the seeds out to the people who need them for their fields.
