Our place is called Nandi House. It’s right there on 1st Cross in Srirampuram. If you live around here, you probably walk past it every day without thinking much about it. It’s an old building, number 29, and it has that specific smell of age and stacks of paperwork. We’ve been operating out of here for a long time now as B. V. Aswathiah & Bros. The brothers started it together, and the name just stuck through the years. Usually, the mornings are the busiest. We get the stock moved in, and the staff starts their rounds. It’s not a fancy office with glass walls or anything like that. It feels like a home because, well, it used to be one a long time ago. The stairs are a bit narrow, so moving big items can be a bit of a headache sometimes. We drink a lot of tea while we look over the ledgers and plan the day. You can hear the sounds of the street outside, kids walking to school and the vegetable sellers yelling. We don’t really do big advertisements. Most people who know us have been coming here for decades. They know where to find us on the cross road. Sometimes the rain leaks a little near the back window, but we just put a bucket there and keep working. It’s a simple life. We focus on the daily tasks, making sure the orders are packed and the accounts are clear before we lock up at night.
