Our business, Hakashi Kpr Silks Ltd., is located at No. 37 Annadanapa Lane, right off Avenue Road Cross. If you know this part of the city, you know how crowded and noisy it gets. There’s always someone shouting or a horn honking right outside the door. But once you step inside, it’s a bit different. We have shelves reaching all the way to the ceiling filled with silk fabrics. It’s a family-run place and has been for many years. We spend our days measuring out cloth and talking to the people who come in. Most of them are regulars who have been buying from us for a long time. We don’t really do any big advertising because word of mouth in this market is enough. The building is quite old and the stairs are a bit narrow, but it’s where we’ve always been. We don’t see a reason to move to a fancy new building. We like the energy of Avenue Road. It’s a lot of work keeping track of all the different types of silk we stock. Sometimes it gets overwhelming when a new shipment arrives and we have to find space for it all. We just do things the old-fashioned way, with a pen and a ledger. It’s a simple way of doing business, but it has worked for us so far. We just focus on the fabric.
