Ashok Novelties

Our shop is located in Kumbarpet inside Mahaveer Plaza. It’s at 149/1 on Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel Road. If you know the area, it’s usually quite loud and busy with traffic outside. We spend most of our time inside these four walls handling different kinds of novelty items. There are stacks of boxes everywhere because we get shipments almost every day. It's a bit of a maze sometimes. We've been in this spot for several years now. The light inside isn't the brightest, but we know where everything is kept. Usually, people stop by while they are doing their other shopping on Patel Road. We don't do much advertising; people just walk in. The plaza can get hot in the summer afternoons. We usually have the fan going all day long. Dealing with suppliers takes up a lot of our morning. We check the lists and make sure everything arrived okay. Sometimes things are missing, and we have to call them up. It’s a lot of manual work, lifting crates and labeling prices. We don't use any fancy computer systems for everything, just some notebooks and basic records. It works for us. Most customers are regulars from around the market. We chat about the weather or the local news while they pick out what they need. It’s a simple way to make a living. We keep it honest and just try to stay on top of the work as it comes in each morning.
