We are located near BMS College of Women in Basavanagudi, right on Wat Street. It’s a lively area, mostly because of the students walking by all day long. Our office at number 25 is basically the hub where all our drivers check in. It’s a small room with a couple of phones that never seem to stop ringing. We spend most of our time coordinating where the cars are and making sure someone is available for the early morning airport runs. It’s not a glamorous job. There’s a lot of waiting around and drinking coffee while we watch the traffic pass by outside the window. The walls have a few maps pinned up, but most of the drivers know the city by heart anyway. Sometimes a car breaks down and we have to scramble to find a replacement, which makes for some stressful afternoons. We’ve been in this neighborhood for years, so we know most of the shopkeepers around here. The office smells a bit like car air freshener and old paperwork. We don’t have fancy uniforms or a big lobby. People just walk in, tell us where they need to go, and we see if we have a car ready. It’s just a local cab office doing its thing day in and day out without much ceremony or excitement. We just make sure people get where they need to go every single day.
