The day starts quite early here at Shop No 2 near the Aet Junction. Usually, there are a few people waiting outside even before we open the doors at Doddakannelli Road. Being right opposite Ram Dev Medicals makes it easy for folks to find us in the Kaikondrahalli area. The air inside smells mostly of disinfectant and spirit, which is what you expect in a lab like this. We spend a lot of time labeling glass tubes and making sure the needles are all disposed of properly in the red bins. Bengaluru traffic is always humming right outside the window, but inside it stays fairly quiet so we can focus on the paperwork. Sometimes the computers run a bit slow when the rain starts, which happens a lot around here in the evenings. We have different chairs lined up for people to sit while they wait for their turn. It is a lot of checking names and matching them with the right tests on the clipboards. The staff wears white coats that get a bit wrinkled by the afternoon. We try to keep the floors very clean because so many people walk in and out all day with dusty shoes. It’s a busy routine of collecting samples and keeping the records straight for everyone. The fridge where we store things hums in the corner constantly. We just stay focused on the task at hand and try to get everyone through as quickly as the process allows without making mistakes.
