Anjana Murthy M

Our place, Anjana Murthy M, is situated at 77/3 Basavanagudi, right on Gandhi Bazaar Main Road. The building is called Kaveri Nilaya, and it’s got that old Bangalore feel to it. Being on the main road means we are right in the heart of the flower and vegetable market. Every morning, the smell of fresh jasmine and coriander drifts in through the windows before the traffic smoke takes over. It’s a busy spot, and there’s always someone knocking on the door or asking for directions. The office inside Kaveri Nilaya is quite comfortable, with a lot of old furniture that has been around longer than I have. We have a small balcony where we keep a few plants, though they struggle a bit with the street dust. Basavanagudi is a place where everyone seems to know everyone, so we spend a fair bit of time just greeting people who walk past. Gandhi Bazaar is never quiet, not even on Sundays, so we’ve gotten used to the constant hum of voices and honking. We don’t bother with much decoration; the walls just have a few calendars and some old photos. It’s a practical space for practical work. We usually have the radio playing softly in the background to drown out some of the bus noise. It feels like home because we’ve spent so many years in this exact spot on the map. Most people just know where we are.
