We are based here in Bangalore, working out of a space filled with books and stacks of paper. Being a publisher and distributor means there is never a quiet moment. We have boxes everywhere, waiting to be sent out to stores or schools. It’s not the most organized-looking place, but there is a system to the mess. I spend my days checking titles and making sure the right quantities are packed into the boxes for the morning courier. Bangalore has a lot of readers, so we stay pretty busy throughout the year. Sometimes authors come by to check on their work, and we sit down for a quick talk about how things are moving along. It’s a small team here. We don't have fancy titles or a big board room. We just get the work done. The coffee machine is probably the most important thing in the office because we start early to beat the city traffic. It’s a bit of a maze with all the bookshelves reaching up to the ceiling, but I like the smell of new paper. We don't spend money on big ads or marketing stuff. We just focus on getting the books to where they need to go. Every day is a bit different, depending on what new shipment has arrived from the printer. It’s a simple business. We like books, and we like making sure people can buy them without too much trouble. It’s just how we do things here in the city. We've been doing this for a long time.
