American Express Business Travel

We sit in an office called Govindam on the 1st Main in Bangalore. Our sign says American Express Business Travel, but we’re just a regular crew of people trying to sort out flights and hotels. Bangalore is always a mess with the traffic, so getting to the office at number 45 can be a chore some days. We spend most of our time on the phone or clicking through booking systems. It’s a lot of "is the flight on time?" and "can we get a better room?". We aren't the ones flying the planes, we just do the legwork behind the scenes. The office feels lived-in. There are stacks of itineraries and half-empty coffee mugs. We’ve been doing this in Karnataka for quite some time now. It’s busy work because business travelers are always in a rush. We try to keep up. It’s not a polished corporate floor like you’d see in a movie. It’s just us in a building, dealing with cancellations and schedule changes. We know the 1st Main area pretty well by now. Sometimes the internet goes slow and we all just sit there waiting, but usually, it's pretty constant. We help people get from point A to point B without too much of a headache. That’s really all there is to it. Just a travel desk in a busy city, trying to make sure nobody gets stuck at an airport at midnight.
