Alankar Fancy Stores

Our little shop is located at number 2 in the Corporation Building over in Lakshmi Narayan Puram. It’s a small corner of the world, really. We call it a fancy store because we sell all those small things you need but never think about until you don't have them. Things like safety pins, different colors of thread, hair bands, and maybe some cheap earrings. I’ve been sitting in this shop for a long time. The building itself is an old one, owned by the corporation, so it has that sturdy, dated feel to it. Students from the nearby schools often drop in to buy pens or notebooks. Then you have the ladies from the neighborhood coming for bangles or bindi packets. It’s a constant flow of people, which keeps the day moving fast. I try to keep everything organized, but with so many small items, things often get mixed up in the drawers. It doesn't bother me much because I know where most things are after all these years. Lakshmi Narayan Puram is a quiet enough place compared to the rest of Bangalore. We don’t have a website or any of that stuff. People just know we are here and they come when they need something. If someone needs a particular shade of ribbon, they usually come to Alankar. It’s just a simple life running a shop like this. I wouldn't know what else to do with my time if I wasn't here every morning.
