Abacus Computers

In Kammanahalli Sector 2, right around Mukund Nagar, you’ll find our little shop, Abacus Computers. It’s a busy area and we’ve been here for a long time now. The shelves are mostly filled with old boxes, spare parts, and monitors that we use for testing. We spend a lot of time taking things apart and putting them back together. Someone’s laptop is always open on the main bench with screws scattered all over a magnetic mat so we don't lose them. The floor is a bit scuffed from moving chairs and heavy towers around. People from the neighborhood stop by with all sorts of issues, like broken screens or keyboards that don't work anymore. We don't have a lot of space, so we have to be careful where we step. It gets a bit warm in the afternoons when all the machines are running at once. We usually have the radio playing in the background to keep things from being too silent. Sometimes we find old cables we forgot we had in the back storage area. It’s not a polished store with glass displays everywhere, it’s more of a workshop where things actually get fixed. We keep a log of what needs to be done on a clipboard by the door. It’s a lot of manual work and staring at tiny components through a magnifying glass. We just show up, do the repairs, and head home when the shutters go down.
