Vinayak Gharguti Khanawal

In the Meerapur galli area of Shahapur, we run this small khanawal. For those who don't know, it is just a place for home-style cooking. We are located at CTS no. 2531 on Mahatma Pule Road. My family and I do most of the work here ourselves. We wake up early to go to the market and pick out the vegetables and the meat. There is no big freezer here; we just cook what we buy that day. The kitchen is just like the one we have at home, with the same pots and pans. We don't use any of those packaged masalas you see on TV. We grind our own spices on the stone. It makes a lot of noise, but the taste is better that way. The dining area is just a few tables in a small room. It gets a bit hot in there when the stove is going, but we have a ceiling fan that helps a little. People from the neighborhood come here when they don't feel like cooking at home. We serve the food on steel plates, and we don't have a menu printed on fancy paper. We just tell people what we made for the day. It is a very simple way of doing things. We have been in this part of Belgaum for a long time, and we just keep doing what we know how to do best, which is feeding people.
