B K Itagi Rashtriya English Medium Residential School is over in Basavanagar, Hirebagewadi. It's a bit different because we have kids living here. Since it’s a residential place, the day starts pretty early with the hostel students getting their breakfast. You can smell the kitchen from the main gate sometimes. We’re out here in Belgaum where it stays relatively green, which is nice for the kids. The school building is quite solid. We have classrooms for the different grades and the hostel rooms are just a short walk away. Managing a boarding school means there’s always something to fix. A tap might be leaking or a light bulb needs changing in the dorms. We have the English medium curriculum, so the teachers are always pushing the students to speak more and practice their writing. In the evenings, you can see them doing their homework together in the study hall. It’s not just about classes; it’s about them living together and getting along. We have a big space for them to play in the late afternoons. It keeps them busy so they don't get too homesick. The weekends are a bit quieter, but there’s still a routine to follow. We try to keep a close eye on everyone to make sure they're doing okay. It’s a big responsibility, having other people's children stay with you, but we’ve been doing it for a while now in Hirebagewadi.
