Grasim Cement Ltd

We are over in Lahara Mohabbat, situated right behind the Ghtp power plant. You can see those massive chimneys looming over us from anywhere in our yard. Because it’s an industrial area, there is always a low humming sound in the background that never really stops. Our office is a very plain brick building and the rest of the space is just for storing the cement. The ground is almost always white with a fine layer of dust that gets onto your boots and clothes immediately. There are trucks coming in and going out at all hours of the day and night. The people working here are mostly locals who have been with the company for a very long time. We usually spend our lunch breaks sitting on the low wall near the entrance watching the tankers go by. The tea man comes around twice a day, and we always look forward to that break. There are no fancy mission statements or posters on our walls. It is just a place where we come to work. We have to deal with a lot of paperwork because the operation is fairly large, but it’s mostly just signing off on deliveries. The weather can be a real problem, making the yard either incredibly dusty or a complete mud pit. We just keep the gates open and handle the daily chores. Behind the plant, things just keep moving along at their own pace.
