Destiny

If you walk down Duttapukur Station Road, you will find us easily enough. This part of 24 Parganas North is always crowded, especially when the trains come in and out. Destiny has been sitting on this road for quite some time now. The shop isn't very large, but we try to fit everything people might need into the space we have. It gets a bit cramped when more than three people come in at once. We spend most of our time standing near the counter or arranging the stock on the wooden shelves. The rain can be a bit of a problem here during the monsoon because the road gets muddy, but people still stop by on their way to the station. We see the same faces every morning and evening. Some people just wave while they're rushing to catch their train. We don't have a big staff, just us family and maybe a helper. The lights inside aren't very bright, but they do the job. We keep a small radio in the corner that plays the news or some music to pass the time when things are slow. It’s not a glamorous business, and we don't try to make it seem like one. We just open the shutters in the morning, sell what we have, and keep a record of everything in a thick notebook. That’s how we’ve always done it and it seems to work for us through the years.
