St Josephs School is situated right near the Mahisouri Chowk on Sikandra Road in Jamui. Being close to a major junction means there is always a lot of movement and sound coming from the street outside. We have students arriving from all over the Jamui area, and the morning rush at the gates is something we have to manage carefully every day. The school itself is an older building with high ceilings and thick walls that help a little bit when the sun is beating down on Sikandra Road. We spend our days going from one classroom to another, checking on the blackboards and making sure there is enough chalk. The staff here has been around for quite a while, so we all know the routine like the back of our hands. We don’t have much in the way of expensive equipment, just the basic stuff that a school needs to function. Sometimes the cows from the nearby area wander too close to the entrance and we have to shoo them away. It is a very practical place where the focus is just on getting through the syllabus and helping the students with their exams. By the time evening rolls around, the dust from the road settles on the windows and we lock up for the night, ready to do it all again tomorrow. It’s a busy life but Jamui is home and we like the people around Mahisouri Chowk.
