Receptionist

Being a receptionist in a city like Bangalore can be quite a task. My work is based in the 560094 area of Karnataka. Most of my day is spent answering the telephone and greeting whoever walks through the front door. The city has changed so much over the years, but the nature of my work stays pretty much the same. You have to be patient with people. Some are in a hurry because of the traffic, and others just want to chat for a bit too long. I keep a log of everyone who visits. My desk is near the window, so I get to see the weather changing, which is usually quite nice in this part of India. I don't use any high-tech gadgets, just a basic computer and a landline that has seen better days. The carpet in the lobby is a bit worn out in the corners, but it makes the place feel lived-in. I handle the filing and make sure the drinking water is always topped up. It is the little things that keep an office running smoothly. I have lived in Bangalore for most of my life, so I know the shortcuts and the best places to get lunch nearby. My colleagues are okay, we mostly talk about our families or what happened on the news. It is a simple life and I don't ask for much more than a steady day of work. I like being the person who helps things stay organized.
