Nandhini Marketing is right in the middle of the chaos on BVK Iyengar Road. We are on the 32nd Main Road at number 214. If you know Bangalore, you know this area is incredibly crowded with shops and people carrying huge boxes everywhere. Our shop is no different from the others. We have stacks of goods piled up almost to the ceiling, and sometimes you have to squeeze through the narrow aisles to find what you need. The phone rings constantly with people asking for prices or checking if their order has arrived from the warehouse. We spend a lot of time dealing with transporters and trying to find space for new arrivals that show up unannounced. It’s loud, it’s dusty, and it’s very busy from the moment we open the doors at ten. We usually eat our lunch in the small space behind the counter, often interrupted by a customer walking in with a question. The floor is concrete and has some cracks, but it handles the heavy boxes okay. We have a big ledger where we write down the sales, even though we use a computer too. It’s just easier that way sometimes when things get really hectic. In the evenings, we have to move all the display items back inside before we pull down the heavy iron shutters for the night. It’s a tiring business, but being in the heart of the market means there is always something happening to keep us on our feet.
