Calcutta Embroidary

Our workshop is located at Shivaji Nagar 24. It’s a busy part of the area, and there is always some kind of noise coming from the street. If you walk inside Calcutta Embroidary, the first thing you’ll notice is the smell of fabric and the constant hum of the machines. We have stacks of thread in every color you can think of, and sometimes it feels like they are taking over the whole place. We do a lot of work on uniforms and traditional clothes, and sometimes people bring in individual pieces they want fixed up. It’s a bit messy, with scraps of cloth on the floor and needles tucked into pin cushions everywhere. We aren't a big factory, just a local spot where people know they can get their stitching done right. Some of the machines are old and a bit finicky, but we know how to kick them into gear when they act up. The lighting isn't the best, so we all tend to lean in close to the fabric. It’s hard on the eyes after a few hours, but we take breaks to chat and have some tea. People in the neighborhood have been coming to us for years because they know we don't rush things just to get them done. We take our time with the patterns. It’s just us doing what we know how to do, day in and day out, in this small corner of Shivaji Nagar.
