Bisamay Bricks

Bisamay Bricks is located in Village Salikotha, which is part of Jaleswar in the Balasore district. It is a rural area, so things move a bit slower out here. We have our yard set up right near the village. Most of our workers live nearby, so we all know each other well. It’s a local operation through and through. We spend our days digging, mixing, and baking. The weather is a big factor for us. If it rains too much, we have to stop everything and cover the piles with plastic sheets. That can be a real pain. We don't have a fancy office with air conditioning or anything like that. We just have a small room where we keep the records and sit down for a minute to drink tea. It’s mostly outdoor work. We don't use big words or try to impress anyone. We just make bricks. Sometimes the kiln doesn't heat up right, or we run low on fuel. Those are the kinds of things we worry about. People from all over Balasore come to us when they are building something new. We try to be fair and just get the job done without any fuss. It’s not a glamorous life, but it’s steady work for us. We’ve been in Salikotha for years and the whole community knows us. We just keep our heads down and work. It's a lot of dust and dirt, but that is just part of it.
