Our place is at Plot No. 51 in M. I. E. Part-1. Being in an industrial estate means we are surrounded by factories and big warehouses. There is always the sound of trucks reversing and the smell of rubber or glue in the air since we handle footwear. The building is basically a large shed with a concrete floor and high metal rafters. We spend a lot of time moving heavy crates around and checking the sizes on the shoe boxes. It isn't a place where you would come to hang out. It’s built for work and nothing else. We have a small corner with a table and a couple of chairs where we do the billing and take our tea breaks. The dust from the industrial area settles on everything, so we are constantly wiping down the desks. In the summer, the heat inside can get pretty intense, but we just keep the big doors open to let the breeze in. We don't have any fancy decorations on the walls, just some old calendars and maybe a few notes pinned up. It’s a very practical environment where the main goal is just to get the shipments out on time. Most of our day is spent on our feet, walking from one end of the plot to the other to find specific items. It’s a long day but it’s honest work.
