Shree Mahalaxmi Brick Fields

Out here in Village Santoshpur, things move a bit slower than in the city. We have the brick fields set up where the soil is right. It’s a lot of open space and plenty of dirt. Most days it’s just the sound of the shovels and the occasional tractor engine. We’ve been at this location for a long time. The weather really dictates what we do. When the rain comes, everything stops and we just wait it out. It can be a bit frustrating when the mud won't dry, but that's just how it goes with this kind of business. We don't have a big office or anything like that. Just a small spot where we keep the books and eat our lunch. You’ll usually find us covered in grey dust by noon. It gets in your hair and under your fingernails. We don't mind it much anymore. It’s just part of the job. Neighbors stop by sometimes just to chat or ask about the price of a load. We try to keep things straightforward. No big talk, just selling bricks to whoever needs them for their projects. It’s honest work, even if it’s tiring. By the end of the week, everyone is pretty exhausted, but then we start all over again on Monday morning. That’s how life is at the brick fields. People know us as the local spot for supplies, and that is enough for us.
