A-One Brick Field

Working out here in Village Vazidpur is a lot of things, but it’s never quiet. We have been running the kilns at A-One Brick Field for longer than I can remember. People usually find us easily because Baraut isn't that large of a place. It is mostly just about the dirt and the fire here. We spend our mornings checking the rows of bricks and seeing how the bhatti is holding up. The dust gets everywhere, on your clothes and in your hair, but you just get used to it after a week. My hands are always stained with that reddish earth. We don't have any fancy machines to do the heavy lifting, so it is mostly just us and the workers getting things moved by hand. When the sun gets high in the Tehsil, we usually take a break under the trees. Someone always brings tea around four. We talk about the rain because that is what stops the work. If it pours, everything goes slow. We just supply what we can to the folks nearby who are building their walls or fixing their sheds. It is not some big corporate setup with meetings and ties. It’s just a yard full of bricks and the smell of coal smoke in the air. We stay busy through the season and hope the weather stays dry enough to finish the stacks. That is just how life goes in this part of the district.
