Shree Chehar Engineering Works

Our workshop is at Plot 5210 in the GIDC area, right near the Sevan Tank. It’s a landmark everyone around here knows. We do all sorts of engineering repairs and small-scale manufacturing. The shop is small and it stays pretty hot in the afternoons. We have a few lathes and a welding station that gets a lot of use. We don't have a big sign out front, just the plot number and the name painted on the door. It’s a family-run kind of thing. My brothers and a couple of cousins work here. We don't really use computers for much other than the basics. Most of our plans are drawn out on scraps of paper or just discussed over a cup of tea. We’ve been at this for years, so we’ve seen all kinds of mechanical problems. People bring us things that are broken and we try to fix them up so they don't have to buy new ones. It’s a dusty place, but it’s ours. We don’t have a marketing person or a website. Word of mouth is how we get most of our jobs. If you come by, you’ll probably find us mid-work with the radio playing in the background. It’s not a glamorous life, but it pays the bills and we like being our own bosses. We just do our best with what we have. Some days are slow, but mostly we stay busy with the local crowd.
