If you go down to Machi Mohala in Ambala Cantt, you’ll find us in the Jamna Dass Building. We are on the ground floor, number 6049/1. It’s a crowded area and there’s always someone moving a cart or a motorcycle blocking the way. Our space is filled with boxes and envelopes of all sizes. There is a specific smell of cardboard and tape that stays in the air. We start early in the morning when the first bags arrive. Sorting everything takes a few hours. We don’t have fancy sorting machines; we just do it by hand. Sometimes a label is hard to read, and we have to call around to find the right house. The building is old, so the walls have some cracks and the paint is peeling in places. It doesn’t matter much to us as long as the packages move out on time. The delivery boys are always coming and going, sharing stories about the traffic or the weather. We have a small table in the back for lunch. Most of us bring food from home. It’s a noisy, busy place but we’ve got a system that works. We don't use big words or have long meetings. We just pick things up and put them where they need to go. That’s the whole job, really. It is physical work and we are usually tired by the end of the day.
