Hari Sri Hollow Bricks

We are at number 25 in Muthukulam, right near the Muthukulam High School. You can usually hear the kids playing or the school bell ringing from our yard. We mainly handle hollow bricks here. It is a different kind of work than the regular red bricks. We have the molds and the cement mixtures sitting out. The ground is mostly grey because of all the concrete dust. It is a noisy job when the machines are running to shake the air out of the blocks. We have a few local men who have been working the mix for a long time. They know exactly how much water to add without even thinking about it. Muthukulam is a small enough place where word gets around if you are doing your job. We don't have a fancy showroom. Everything is just sitting out in the open air. The sun dries the blocks out on the pallets. Sometimes the cows from the nearby fields wander a bit too close to our stacks. We spend our days loading up tractors or small trailers. It is a very plain way of making a living. We don't use big words to describe what we do. We just make the blocks, let them set, and then move them out when someone needs them for a wall or a house. It is just a regular day-to-day operation for us here at the yard. We take our tea breaks under the big tree near the entrance.
