Hotel Karni

Hotel Karni is situated right on the Bypass Road in Bijainagar. We are at the 27 Mile Chouraha, which is a big intersection for trucks and cars traveling through Ajmer. Because we are on the highway, there is always a layer of dust on the windows, no matter how much we wipe them. I started this place because I saw so many travelers looking for a spot to rest their eyes for a few hours. The parking area is just gravel, but it’s large enough for a few vehicles. Inside, the rooms are plain with white walls and simple tiled floors. We don’t have any fancy decorations. There’s a small desk where I keep the ledger and a telephone that rings quite often. My son takes over in the evenings so I can get some sleep. We get a lot of drivers who are tired from the long road. We keep a big pot of tea going in the back most of the time. The bathrooms are functional, though the tiles are a bit old now. It’s a practical place for someone who doesn’t want to spend much but needs a bed. Sometimes the wind picks up across the bypass and you can hear it whistling through the doors. We just do our best to make it a quiet spot in the middle of all the traffic. It’s a tough spot to keep clean, but we do what we can every single day.
